Gibbard Furniture

Gibbard FurnitureRemoving paint from antique furniture without damaging the original finish?

I just bought a set Gibbard dining room, and it appears that the chairs were "hurt" in a wall, I suppose, and the painting was "scraped" off the legs. You do not know if the paint is oil or latex. I DO want to remove the original finish or damage.

Try a little fine steel wool and water. Do not rub too hard. If this does not work, there is a product called Goof Off that could. If this does not work, then it is probably oil paint. In this case, mineral spirits may soften enough to allow you to rub it with steel wool. Just be sure not to do when you rub steel wool. You want to rub hard enough to remove paint, but not finished.
