Brain Development In Children

Brain Development In ChildrenI am teaching mathematics (brain development in children) and just need help / info?

I have two children, are seriously lagging. I picked that one is ADD and the other the mother approached me that her child will have ADD and they were going to be evaluated.

Is there something I could do to help these children out of constant reinforcement of the work?

You can make shorter work periods in order to make the most of their attention span.

You can also use some sensory / physical activities to reinforce concepts.

For example if you teach children to count or to add you can draw a number line or square on the ground.

The children then skip the required number of points or blocks. It also works with new concepts.

You can use things like matches or icy pole sticks to help them understand the time and division.

You can also try math and computer games.

Most of these work activities with all the children you teach not only children with ADD.

You could try to differentiate. Discover what makes these kids tick, they in football, cars, music, TV? Then see if your hardware on your math particular issue. It could help them stay focused and do the work!

Another thing is to think of learning styles. They can concentrate better if they are more kinesthetic approaches, or perhaps have visual aids to remind them of the task to do. I would certainly ensure that they have a task written on paper in front of them, because they may forget what you told them 5 minutes later:)

And of course do not forget to reward work done in any way you think they will get positive reinforcement!

I would also talk to your SENCO for advice on ADD, and all the resources and ideas of what to do. If you are a sec.school then ask some children to other teachers what they do.

Good luck, hope that helps:)
