W hen American artist and furniture designer Charles Hollis Jones started working with acrylic and Lucite Back in the 1960s, these documents had never been taken seriously as fodder for the fine arts and furniture. But the pioneer had something up his sleeve. He was only 16 years in 1961 when he founded CHJ Designs and began selling his work in department stores. Two years later he moved to Los Angeles from his native Indiana and started to create pieces of furniture in any such materials for the exhibition halls known as THE Hudson-Rissman. Soon he began to attract the attention of stars like Johnny Carson, Frank Sinatra and Lucille Ball, who ordered all custom pieces for their homes. In the 70s, Hollis Jones launched the Edison lamp, steel and Lucite housing the lantern of a single bulb that Edison earned him the design of California 11 Competition. He continued to create hundreds of drawings in acrylic, table lighters and candles four poster beds and spiral staircases.

Now, 65 years, Hollis Jones is still alive and Design in Los Angeles and this year marks the 50th anniversary of his design studio. His acrylic and metal coffee tables, side tables, chairs, lamps and have become iconic to the point that if you do not know its name, you probably still recognize her work. Last month, at Chryssanthou Art & Design in West Hollywood, Calif., Hollis Jones retrospective and also introduced its new series "O" line in shapes inspired by the circle, whose perfection is affirmed in carved geometric polished nickel handles and runners. Highlights of the collection, the "O" Rocker is constructed of light reflecting transparent acrylic sandwiched between frames in polished nickel. Hollis Jones actually built a presidential seal in one of the rockers and a gift for Obama. Jones is enjoying a renaissance? With the promotion of the new series and stunt Chryssanthou Obama, it is certainly positioning itself for attention.
